Who it's for
Golfers, racket players, cricketers, runners — and the rest of us.
The Costa del Sol is a sporting place. Here's what each sport tends to do to the body, and how Richard works with it.
Golf
The swing asks a lot of a stiff back.
Eighteen holes is hundreds of rotations through the hips and lower back, with the lead shoulder, forearms and wrists taking the strike. Richard works the hip rotators, the lower back and the shoulder girdle so you can turn freely — and keeps the forearms and grip muscles from tightening up through a busy season.
The studio is a short drive from the Torrequebrada, Benalmádena and Mijas courses — handy before or after a competition weekend.
Padel
Fast, low and full of lunges.
Padel punishes the shoulders and elbows on the volley and smash, and the calves, Achilles and hips on every lunge to the glass. Richard works on the serving and smashing shoulder, the forearm and elbow, and the hips and calves that do the stopping and starting.
The studio is a minute from Torremuelle Racket Center, so a session before or after court time is easy.
Tennis
Serving shoulder, forearm, glutes, Achilles.
The serve and overhead load the shoulder and rotator muscles; the groundstrokes load the forearm and elbow; the movement loads glutes, calves and the Achilles. Richard keeps the serving shoulder moving through its full range and the forearm and calves from locking up through tournament weeks.
Cricket
Long days in the field, big loads on the bowler.
Bowlers load the shoulder, lower back and lead hip with every delivery; batters tighten through the forearms, shoulders and hips; everyone stiffens after six hours on their feet. Richard works trackside at cricket days across Málaga and sees players through the season in the studio.
Running & triathlon
Calves, hamstrings, hips and the ITB through a training block.
Marathon and triathlon training stacks up in the calves, hamstrings, hip flexors and the outside of the thigh. Regular sessions through a block keep the legs turning over, and a pre-race loosen-up and post-race flush bookend the big day. Richard has worked with runners from first-timers to marathon PB chasers.
And everyone else.
Desk-bound shoulders, a back that's stiff from the drive down, the hiking legs, the holiday that went a bit hard — you don't need a sport to need good hands. Plenty of Richard's regulars just want to move without that ache.
